The Process Continues

Well I thought I'd give you a quick update.

Our contract was accepted. We had our home inspection last week. Here is a list of the things that need to be fixed.

- Slate roof is missing some shingle and the roof needs some work
- Sidewalk outfront presents a tripping hazard, needs to be leveled
- Air conditioning unit has several rusted fins that need replacing
- Sewer pipe (cast iron) has a crack and needs to be replaced
- Boiler has a leaky valve that needs to be fixed

The rest is pretty much cosmetic, but we do want the major stuff done before we move in. We'll clean it up and make it pretty. :)

Probably is the ex-wife does not want to do ANYTHING, and is basically being a greedy little whore. So, now we've had to actually get lawyers involved. :(

So, as it stands our closing date is January 15th and then we move into our new humble abode. Hopefully things continue to work themeselves out. Cross your fingers for us. Home buying is stressfull. :(

We're going to be homeowners

So just a quick update.

We saw about 5 houses on Saturday and put an offer on one of them. They made a counter offer and we've accpeted.

The house is great. The area is a little spotty, but it should be okay. We are very excited.

I'll let you know more of the details.

We've now put an offer on a town house.

We're in the waiting processs now. The wife is terribly stressed out about it. Oddly enough I'm very calm.

Cross your fingers for us.

The Further Adventures of House Hunting

Okay so two days ago my wife contacted several real estate agents trying to find one that wasn't a complete idiot. Let's face it she had a hell of a time accomplishing that. However, finally she decided on one and we told her the 4 places that we would like to see. She didn't hear from the real estate agent all day and most of the evening and this was pissing her off.

Okay so, last night we met with our Mortgage broker, we've already been pre-approved for X amount of dollars and we just needed to sign some paperwork ect. Well it turns out that she basically put in the wrong values and so now we have to wait for her to fix it all up before we can sign it.

So, after dinner we decided to check out a few more places just across the border, and we finally get a call from our Real Estate agent saying she can show us one of the places on Saturday but hasn't heard back from the other three.

I mean do people want to FUCKING sell their house or not? I mean really? How incompetent are Real Estate agents?

Okay so at this point my wife is mad, and she's already starting to not feel well and I think the whole thing is stressing her out. So, she basically calls the agent back a few minutes later and says that we've decided not to look at buying a house at this time.

So there you go, the fun of house shopping.

Anyway, this morning she's not feeling well at all and she sounds terrible, which means that I'm totally going to get sick soon as well. But at lunch today I'm going to drive around and get all the numbers for all the places that we want to see and we are going to set up our own appointments and go from there.

House Hunting Update

So last night we drove around and looked at a lot of places and checked out the areas they are in and we've decided to see 4 of them.

The one I like the best is in a really nice area, it's sort of a fixer upper, but on the same block across the street is the exact same style of house on the same lot size and they are asking for 30k more, leads me to believe this is a good investment.

The one my wife likes is a nice duplex, large on an nice block but REALLY close to a crummy area.

Once we see the actual places and not just the outside we'll have to make a decision and an offer. We're meeting with the realtor tonight and we're in the process of setting up appointments.

I'll keep you posted. :)

House Hunting

Well I guess I have now moved on to the next stage in my life.

We are now in the process of looking for a home to buy. The task is daunting and not all that fantastic. We can't afford much and we're living in an area that is fairly unforgiving, but we would definately like to own something.

We know what we can and can't afford, we know what the bank will lend us, and now all we need to do is find the perfect home. Problem is can we find one for so little?
How far will I have to commute so that we can find something nice and reasonable? Will it be a good investment? Where oh where do we live?

Right now we live near Princeton, which is good because it's close to my work, but some of the homes that we've been looking at online will take me a good 50-60 minutes to commute to work and home. Is it worth it for a nice home? Should we sacrifice and take something crappier in a crappier neighboorhood just so I don't have too commute so far?

These are burning questions that I really don't have the answer too. But we're looking and I'll keep you up to date on our search. Right now there are a few places nearby to where we are living that are in our price range, we just need to see exactly where they are at and decide if we like them or not. Tonight we'll probably do a bit of driving around before it gets dark and see if any of the places are nice.

Other than that, things are progressing along at a relatively slow pace between me and the wife, but hopefully things will pick up in the future.

I have been negligent

Well I apologize for my lack of posting. Not that I have any readers anymore anyway. :(

Life has been hectic, but not exciting hectic or anything of any interest that I could post hectic. Work is going smashingly well, our project is moving full steam ahead, heck I could even be part of a small drug that changes the world. In another 7 or so years or so. :)

My wife is doing well and has just started back into her writing as well as volunteering at a magazine in New York a few times a week.

The animals are getting along, the dog chases the cat, the cat hides, the cat sneaks around, the cat swats at the dog, the dog chases the cat, rinse lather repeat. They seem to enjoy each others company. The cat really loves the dog, every morning when I let the dog out of the room the cat comes over, follows the dog and rubs up against his legs. Awww, isn't that cute. We had one incident when my wife and I were in another room and the pets were elsewhere and the dog started FREAKING out at the cat. I'm guessing just just got on his nerves and he told her to go Fuck herself. But other than that the pets are getting along great and my allergies seem to be holding out fine.

My relationship with my wife is not where I wish it was, we have some issues that I'm personally working on, but I don't know if she's on board or not. Hopefully some day soon I can report great things from that front.

Anyhoo, just let me know if you're still out there. :)
